Obituary: Silas Naidoo - 27 April 1955 - 31 December 2020
Silas started his working career at Plascon Evans Paints in 1975 as a laboratory assistant in the Decorative Laboratory based in Durban.
He retired in March 2017 after 42 years of distinguished service. At retirement Silas was the Customer Manager for Axalta Plascon for Toyota and for other auto component manufacturers in KZN.
Over the years his work involved technology transfer and technical service for top coats and electrocoat at the Automotive and auto component plants in KZN. He travelled to Kansai Paints in Japan and Axalta in Germany and was highly respected in his field internationally.
Silas was dedicated to lifelong learning and was always studying. Some of his achievements are:
- National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry.
- National Paint Certificate
- Batchelor of Technology
- Master of Business Administration.
Silas was also dedicated in the education of others and he tutored Btec students in Quality Assurance at DUT.
He was a long-standing member OCCA KZN.
Silas was well liked by all that knew him. Customers, colleagues and students alike will miss him dearly.
Silas will be remembered as an exemplary person – kind, gentle and honest. He always went beyond the call of duty – with a broad smile and a delightful sense of humour.
Silas was a devoted Christian and Assistant Pastor in his Church.
